How to Order Your Perfect Ford F-150
June 09 2023 - Lisa Cook
A red 2023 Ford F-150 Sport is shown towing an Airstream after leaving a Red Hook Ford dealer.

For more than 40 years, the Ford F-150 has been the best selling truck in America—in fact, the F-Series has been the overall best selling vehicle since the Reagan era. That is a long time for holding onto such a prestigious title, and it shows just how impressive the F-150 is as a full-size truck. If you're looking for a Red Hook Ford dealer to order an F-150 at, we suggest you widen your search and visit us at Ruge's Ford down in Rhinebeck. Although you have no shortage of options available to you when it comes to dealerships in this area, we believe in going further to provide you with the best service possible.

Ordering a Ford F-150 doesn't have to be difficult, but there are some important things to consider as you do so. The last thing you want to do is go through the effort of custom ordering your next truck, only to realize that you missed an option you wish you had chosen once you drive it. That's why it's so important that you work with a dealer that will put your needs first and help you consider every facet of your next truck, which is exactly what we do.

The Ordering Process

The actual process of ordering a Ford F-150 isn't particularly complicated, but there are a few important steps to consider. While you can potentially try to figure all of this out on your own, we strongly suggest you visit us at Ruge's Ford and let us take all of the hassles off your shoulders when ordering your next truck. Ford makes the process simple, but there are still some things you can overlook or miss out on while ordering, and we can make sure you don't miss out on anything.

For starters, one of our friendly and knowledgeable salespeople will work closely with you to help identify everything you need in your truck. We'll go over many of these details below, but nothing beats the personal experience of having someone take you through the options available to ensure you get what you're looking for. This means we'll ask you questions, answer any questions you have, and discuss what your next F-150 needs for you to get the most from it when driving around Red Hook, heading up to the Adirondacks, or doing anything else you want with your truck.

We'll then guide you through each step of the ordering process, using the information we figure out to customize your truck with everything you want. Our fantastic team can even take you through the financing process to ensure you have everything figured out before you place your order. Once all is said and done and the order is placed, we can inform you how long you should expect it to take for your custom truck to be delivered. We'll provide you with updates afterward so you know what's going on with your order, and we'll let you know as soon as it arrives and it's ready for you to get behind the wheel. The entire process is simple and straightforward, resulting in you getting the best features and options designed to meet your personal needs.

Examining Your Engine Options

As you start to look into ordering a custom Ford F-150, there are some important things to think about and consider. First and foremost among them, as far as we're concerned, is the kind of engine that you need. The 2023 Ford F-150 has five different engines available to you, which gives you tremendous freedom to get the right amount of power to meet your needs. Whether that means the standard 3.3L V6 engine with 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque or the available 5.0L Coyote V8 engine with its 400 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque is entirely up to you. Your engine choice has a big impact on your truck's overall performance and capabilities, however, so this is very important.

Certain engines are also only offered on certain trim levels, so the kind of power you want and need greatly impacts some of your additional decisions. If you simply want the standard engine, then you can find a lot of options with that available to you. On the other hand, if you need the available 3.5L EcoBoost Turbo V6 engine with its 14,000 lbs of towing capacity for hauling stuff around Red Hook or to a job site, then you'll need to focus on models with this engine offered. Whether you already know exactly which engine you want in your truck or you're still figuring things out, we will make sure the F-150 you order has the power you need.

A Look at Notable Trim Levels

Arguably just as important as the engine you want for your truck is the collection of features and options you're looking for in a trim level. The 2023 Ford F-150 has eight different trim levels available, with some significant differences between them, and we can help you figure out which one is right for you. Some other manufacturers and their vehicles have trims that are only incrementally different and come down to minor improvements to tech features or luxury options from one to the next, but the F-150 can be quite different from that.

For example, the starting XL trim comes with the standard 3.3L V6 engine, features 17-inch wheels, and has an 8.0-inch infotainment display with a 4.0-inch driver productivity screen. You get cloth seating in the XL, along with a basic sound system and air conditioning. Going from that to something like the King Ranch, you'll find a lot of great upgrades like a powerful 5.0L V8 engine as standard, plus 20-inch wheels, a pair of 12-inch displays for infotainment and productivity, a B&O sound system, and much more.

On the other hand, looking at a trim like the F-150 Raptor is an entirely different option that transforms this truck into an off-road beast. The Raptor has next-generation FOX Live Valve internal bypass shocks designed to handle the roughest terrain, along with a twin-turbo V6 engine, a 5-link rear suspension with extra-long trailing arms for excellent axle position, and much more. You get BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires on the Raptor, heavy-duty skid plates to protect the underside, and this model has 12 inches of ground clearance compared to other F-150 models that get about nine inches of clearance. When ordering your next truck, choosing the Raptor gives you a machine that can handle challenging trails and take you on any adventure you can dream of.

Extra Packages and Options

Beyond the trim you decide on, however, there are still plenty of additional options and packages that you can choose to customize your F-150 further. For example, you can put together an F-150 Raptor with incredible off-road performance and still choose an available Tow Technology Package to make it easy to haul a boat behind you or swap out the standard 17-inch wheels for forged-aluminum bead-lock capable wheels that are perfect for rock crawling and more. Even if you stick to the starting XL trim for the F-150, you still have more than a dozen performance, trailering, and appearance packages to choose from, plus countless additional options to let you get just what you need.

Putting Together the Perfect Pickup

As you can see, you have tremendous freedom when custom-ordering your next F-150 to get all the features and options you want. With so many amazing choices to consider, it's easy to miss something that you might later regret and end up with a driving experience that's very satisfying but still lacking something that you could've had. No matter what you need a truck to be able to do—from getting around Red Hook to leaving the city for a weekend adventure—you can put together an F-150 to meet your needs. And with so many problems these days with component shortages and supply chain issues, custom ordering your next truck is the best way to ensure you get what you want. So visit us today at Ruge's Ford, and we'll help you order the perfect pickup to get where you need to go.
